2020 Spring Show Club Member Information

Ames Figure Skating is proud to present the 27th Annual Spring Show featuring the theme “Wish Upon a Star”. Skaters will have the option to sign up for one, two or four group numbers; plus the option to participate in the Parent & Child number.

Group Registration Options and Fees:
•    Single Group Number = $50
•    Two Group Numbers = $75
•    Full Show | Four Group Numbers = $95
•    Parent/Child = $50 | Do to liability issues any participant in parent/child who has not skated in the last 6 months must sign up for the 4th session of Learn to Skate.
•    Senior Solo = No Cost | This option is available to all graduating high school seniors. Skaters must be a current AFSC members or associate members and contracting ice for the Fall and Spring sessions.

Plus, skaters may also sign up for a Solo, Feature or Duet/Trio based on their current contacted skating hours.
Solo Requirements
•    220 skating hours (January-December)
•    Four (4) competitions and/or test sessions; at least one must be a Freeskate Event
•    Must have done a feature or duet/trio in a previous show
•    Music length will be determined by skater's free skate level
 
Feature Requirements
•    170 skating hours (January-December)
•    Three (3) competitions and/or test session; at least one must be a Freeskate Event
•    Music length approx. 1 minute
 
Duet/Trio Requirements
•    120 skating hours (January-December)
•    Two (2) competitions and/or test session
•    Music length will be determined by highest free skate level
 
Secondary Discipline Requirements - defined as nationally recognized events (Pairs and/or Partner Ice Dance).
•    60 skating hours per skater on discipline (January-December)
•    Two (2) tests and/or competitions with discipline
•    Music length to be determined by Show Director

Show Details:

Group Registration Details
Skaters will be placed in specific numbers by the Show Director based on the overall ability of the skater. The Show Director will consider all facets of the skater when determining their placement in the show including current Moves in the Field level, current Freeskate level, number of competitions, skaters age, presence or performance ability on the ice, ice etiquette, overall attitude during classes, etc. All elements of a skater's abilities are carefully considered before placing them in the various group numbers. Skaters agree to accept any role for which they are cast.

Solo | Features | Duet/Trio | Secondary Discipline Details
Skaters interested in these numbers will have minimum requirements they are expected to achieve during the 12 months preceding the annual ice show (January-December 2019). These requirements help to establish that a skater has the experience to perform at the level expected for the show. Skaters will be required to log their skating hours through the Club provided laptop and provide proof of competition/test registration as requested. The Club will communicate to Skaters throughout the year with their total skating hours so that skaters may track their progress. Skaters MUST skate their required hours or pay the cost of hours not skated based on the current rates ($14/hour). Skaters will be cast into roles by the Show Director based on the same overall skating abilities as listed above for the group numbers. Skaters agree to accept any role for which they are cast. There are no additional costs for skaters to perform in a solo, feature, duet or trio except for the costs of the costumes.

Additional Show Costs
Costumes – a $25 costume deposit will be required at the time of registration. As a general rule of thumb, costumes range from $30-$75+ per number and will be decided by the Show Committee. The total cost for costumes will be paid upon delivery of the costumes. Skaters will have a chance to see costumes prior to ordering; time will be determined by Show Chairpersons. Once costumes are ordered, they are not returnable or refundable.

Tickets - Each family is required to purchase a minimum of 6 tickets at the time of registration. Tickets cost $8 for adults and school-age children 5 and older. Tickets can be resold. Each registered skater will receive one VIP ticket.  The VIP ticket allows admittance into both performances.
•    Additional discounted tickets are available for $8 each and can be purchased until one week prior to the show.
•    Senior citizens (60 and over) and students (with ID) will be $5 at the door

Sponsorships
Each family is asked to contact local businesses for sponsorship ads that will be included in the Spring Show program. Sponsorship packets will be handed out at a later time.  In lieu of contacting local businesses, a skater may choose to make a $50 personal donation to the show.  
•    Sponsorship Bonus – As an incentive to get additional business sponsorships, skaters will receive a costume credit equal to 10% of the amount collected from additional sponsorships, in excess of the $50 requirement.
•    Registration fees & costume deposit are non-refundable.  

Practice Schedule
Practices for group numbers will begin the week of March 30, 2020. Each group number will practice a minimum of three (3) 30-45 minute sessions. Practice times will be determined based on the number of participates in the number along with the complexity of choreography.  Most group practices will begin at 5:30 pm or later during the weekdays and after Club Ice on Saturdays. The week of the Spring Show will require skaters to attend a show run through on both Wednesday and Thursday. The Friday of Show Week will be an official Dress Rehearsal where skaters will be required to be in full costumes. An official schedule will be provided to all skaters that sign up.

ALL REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY! If you miss one rehearsal for a number and wish to remain in that number, you must contact the coach of the number AND one of the show chairs prior to the rehearsal to notify them of your absence, and you must arrange and pay for a private lesson with the coach to learn the missed material. If you miss more than one rehearsal for any number you may be unable to participate in that number, and you are still responsible for the costume cost.

Costume Measurements
We will be collecting costume measurements after the close or the registration process. Please watch for additional communications via email.

Senior Solo
Skates that qualify for a Senior Solo are asked to provide a skater biography along with a senior photo that will be used in the show program and at the rink. Please send this information to the Show Chairpersons by December 31, 2019.  Music for senior solos may be chosen by the skater and reviewed by the Show Director. Music length should coincide with the skater’s competition level. All choreography should be completed by a Club Coach and be “competition-ready” for the show.

Volunteer Information
The Ames Figure Skating Club relies on the service of volunteers for all of our club events including the Spring Ice Show.  Because of that, we ask that our skater families volunteer at four (4) AFSC events throughout the year AND we ask that one family member volunteer for a show committee to assist with the production of the show.

AFSC Events include: Bulletin Board, Iowa Games (July) or Cyclone Country Competitions (November), Exhibitions, Fall Kick-off (August), Fundraisers, Holiday Gala (December), National Skating Event (January), Newsletter, Publicity/Promotions, Recognition Event, Summer Camp (June-July), Website, Ice Monitors, Club Room, Board of Directors, Membership Development, Regional Send-off (September).

Show Committee Options
In addition to the AFSC events, we also required that a parent/guardian of the skater chair or co-chair an ice show committee. Please list your top three (3) show committee preferences as part of the registration process and the Show Chairs will notify you of your official assignments. The following committees are part of our show production:  Props, Cast Party, Sewing/Alterations, Sponsors, Flower Sales, Ticket Sales, Publicity, Dressing Rooms, Set-up, Tear-down, Practice Ice Monitor and/or Check-in.

Additional Considerations
All skaters requesting to be part of the 2020 Spring Ice Show must be a member in good standing with the Ames Figure Skating Club.
In the event of an injury or other unique instances, the AFSC Board of Directors may waive all or a part of the requirements.
