SMSU Volleyball Camps

2020 Winter Skills Clinics

The clinics offer athletes the opportunity to achievesuccess on the volleyball court through training with agreat staff of SMSU coaches and student athletes. Helpyourself gain the skills and the confidence to bring yourgame to the next level on the court!

The winter clinics are similar to volleyball lessons.Training each week is tailored to the athletes inattendance and will reflect the coaches’ assessments ofeach athlete’s needs as a player. From week to week, theclinics will offer a balance of building confidence in theathletes’ skills, and challenging them to grow asvolleyball players

First Contact Skills—serving, digging and serve receivepassing—are the most important skills in volleyball. Inour serve receive, serving & defense sessions, the focuswill be on high repetition in passing, digging, and serving.

Passing training will include: posture, footwork,underhand and over hand technique, accuracy, andtempo. Digging training will include: overhand andunderhand technique, movement, and emergencysituation skills. Serving training will include: technique,specialization, and accuracy.

January 12th, 19th, 26th, February 2nd, and 9th
Grades: 6th - 12th
Check-In: Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to session start time
Serve Receive Passing, Defense & Serving: 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Attacker-Blocker Training OR Setter Training: 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
February 2nd Clinics: 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. & 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $30 per Session
$50 per Day (Includes Two Sessions)

Attacker-Blocker Training: Attacker-BlockerTraining is a clinicdesigned to work on thefundamental elementsof attacking andblocking. In theattacking segment, wewill focus on armswing,approach footwork and mechanics, timing, and ball/body relationship. Along with footwork and timing, the blocking segment will also teach communication, reaction, eye training, and more.

Setter Training: Setter Training willfocus on concepts frombasic technique to moreadvanced areas ofleading a team. Handposition and shape,follow-through, postureand movement will bethe starting point forthe training. In additionto solid foundationtraining, the sessionswill also cover quickertempo sets, jumpsetting, game planning,opponent block awareness,attacking/dumping, andemergency setting skills.
