This Football Academy will be led by Ankeny football coaches, players and volunteers. Open to ALL Students incoming to 6th-8th grades, and All Students enrolled in Ankeny School District no one will be refused. |
SUMMER MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL ACADEMY
Ankeny varsity football coach, Rick Nelson, the coaching staff, members of the varsity football team, and volunteers will be offering a summer long camp to players going into 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The camp will be focusing on fundamental football techniques with a variety of skills and drill for the individual position. Contact Coach Nelson with questions: rick.nelson@ankenyschools.org

We encourage them to try multiple positions on offense and defense.
O-LINE: Stance, pass protect, drive block, combo block, positioning, foot work, hand placement, snapping
D-LINE: Stance, get off, hand placement, tackling, pass rush, getting off a block
RUNNING BACKS / LINEBACKERS: Blocking, running, receiving, footwork, ball handling, getting off a block, fill a gap, slow play, keys, and tackling.
QBS: Drops, stepping up, reads, throwing position, lower half, eyes up and down field.
WR/DB: Stance, catching blocking routes, back pedaling, tackling, coverages
ATTIRE & EQUIPMENT:
- Shorts
- Shirt
- Cleats preferred
- Water bottle
- Towel
- Mouth piece
- Gym shoes in case of bad weather
