Event Description

Benet Academy Camps

Robotics Summer Camp

My name is Pat Marshall.  I have been teaching Physics at Benet for 14 years and prior to that I was a Civil Engineer.  I have always loved building and designing from Legos as a child to Robotics in college.  Benet Academy has competed in the Vex Robotics competition for the last 5 years with several of my teams making it the State Championships and one team making it the World Championships.  Over the years most students began with no prior knowledge of robotics and had to learn a lot along the way.  Creating a robot that can compete takes motivation and determination.  The students had to be prepared to fail and then work together to fix the problem.  My hope is that this camp will allow campers to learn how to build and code a robot that can function the way they design it to and just as importantly to develop the determination and grit to finish the task.

Robotics Camp Information
Grades: Incoming 6th,7th,8th and 9th grade students
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Cost: $185 per session/student prior to May 15th;

Session II | June 15th - 19th, 2020

Location: Benet Academy (2200 Maple Ave Lisle, IL 60532) in room T109

Instructor: Pat Marshall (Benet Physics Teacher & Robotics Team Coach)

Camp Details:

Campers will be learning the coding language RobotC to build a robot using:

• ultrasonic range sensors
• Light sensors
• Potentiometers
• Switches
• Motors, Servos and more

They will use this language to help build a robot that can and complete several challenges.  The camp will allow for campers to progress at the pace most comfortable with them.  If some campers move quickly they will have the opportunity to graduate to more difficult challenges. Campers will take home a camp shirt along with robotics prizes.

Session 1 will focus on programming and working with Vex components and sensors.

Session 2 will have everything session 1 offers but will also allow campers who have completed session 1 to further advance their robotics skills.
