Our mission is to immerse students in the exciting world of percussion, helping to develop their technique and musicality, improve their sightreading abilities, and learning about new styles of music and instruments through interactive masterclasses, talks, and even virtual ensemble experiences. Instead of coming to UTSA, students get to actively participate from their own home!
Students will attend hands-on classes via Zoom each day with world-class percussion faculty on the following topics:
- Snare drum and marching percussion fundamentals
- Timpani and ear training
- Keyboard percussion techniques and sightreading
- Jazz percussion and drum set
- World percussion
Students should have at least one year of experience studying music to participate in the UTSA Percussion Camp (band, private lessons, or similar).
We are excited to announce that Evan Chapman (https://www.evanmchapman.com) will be joining us as our featured guest artist this year.

Materials
Students should have the following for this year’s virtual camp:
- Computer or smartphone access with internet connection
- Zoom account
- Sticks and practice pad
- OPTIONAL - Bell kit, mallet keyboard instrument, or piano
- OPTIONAL - Drum set
We believe there is still a LOT to learn without the usual access to instruments in our facilities. Our seasoned faculty have some very innovative ideas for our classes and virtual ensembles, and are looking forward to providing an enriching educational experience for each and every student.
