About TRU Basketball

MISSION

Our mission is to point young people to Christ while providing a transformational experience that will help athletes grow their game, improve their basketball IQ, and equip them to lead.

IS TRUE BASKEBALL RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you are serious about taking your game to the next level and growing both on and off the court then TRU Basketball is for you. Where else are you able to join 80-120 like-minded individuals who don’t want to settle for being average in any area of their life? Athletes who are eager to learn and willing to get outside their comfort zone will leave different than when they arrived.

HEAR, SEE, DO PHILOSOPHY

We will take a unique approach to helping players grow their game and improve their basketball IQ using the hear, see, do philosophy. Athletes will hear the concepts in classroom sessions, see high level athletes in action during  lm sessions, and then do the skills on court during intense training sessions.

WHO WE ARE

TRU Basketball stands for The Rock University and is rooted in Matthew 7:24-27. In a world full of confusion about identity and purpose, our mission is to point young people to Christ while providing a transformational experience that will help athletes grow their game, improve their basketball IQ, and equip them to lead.

GOD FIRST. OTHERS SECOND. I AM THIRD.

The IAM3 philosophy is deeply imbedded into all aspects of the IWU men’s basketball program. At TRU Basketball, you will gain insight into the IAM3 and Fearless mentalities that have helped catapult the Wildcats to national prominence and 3 National Championships.

DIRECTORS

David and Amber Osborn are the husband-wife duo directing TRU Basketball. They have a combined 15+ years of coaching high school and college basketball (DI, DIII, NAIA) and 20 years of directing camps. David is entering his fifth year on staff at IWU. He has learned from some of the most exceptional cultures in IWU Hoops and PGC Basketball. It was as a rising senior in high school where he saw how common athletes and players can do uncommon and special things on the basketball court. He is excited to pass that along and more with TRU Basketball.

Amber was a 4-year starter at Boston College. She led her team to a Big East Championship, made two trips to the NCAA Sweet 16, and was inducted into the Varsity Club Hall of Fame. She then played 5 years in the WNBA for the Minnesota Lynx. It is Amber’s desire to influence others and develop their character and heart through the game of basketball. Together, David and Amber are excited to help transform athletes through TRU Basketball, giving players a unique experience unlike any other.

Camp Details

ARRIVAL & CHECK-IN

Each player should arrive at Reed Hall (dormitory) for check-in on July 27 between 11:00am and 12:30pm. Players will be able to drop their belongings off in their dorm room before starting camp promptly at 1:00pm. An OPTIONAL parent meeting will be held at 1:00pm following registration in the lobby of Reed Hall.

WHAT TO BRING

Clothes for 3 days (6 sessions of on-court workouts), bedding for a twin sized bed, basketball shoes, your own ball with name written on it, outside shoes, snacks for the dorm, and a PEN/PENCIL and NOTEBOOK.

Additionally, players can bring money to purchase camp gear. Players should also consider bringing cash for pizza and concessions in the evenings when camp has concluded for the day.

MEALS

Included in the cost of camp are meal swipes at Baldwin Cafeteria, an all you can eat buffet.

OBSERVING COACHES

Observing coaches who bring 3 athletes can observe TRU Basketball Camp for free. Otherwise, there will be a $100 charge to help offset the cost of housing and meals. Observing coaches will be able to have lunch with the camp directors, be a part of debrief meetings, and observe all aspects of camp.

RULES & REFUND POLICY

Campers must abide by the rules and regulations of IWU Basketball Camps. Any serious violation, damage to IWU camp property, or other behavior deemed detrimental to the group will result in immediate dismissal. There will be no refund or fees upon expulsion or voluntary withdrawal from camp. Cancellation within one week prior to the start of camp will result in the forfeit of 50% of camp fees.

QUESTIONS

If you have any questions, email David Osborn at david.osborn@indwes.edu.

FAQ

Is TRU Basketball for players of every position?

Yes. We teach the game, not a group of skills specific to one position. Any player will benefit from TRU Basketball—regardless of their position—as long as they are eager and willing to grow!

What if I need to cancel my registration?

Registration can be cancelled up into one week prior to the start of camp. Cancellation within one week prior to the start of camp will result in the forfeit of 50% of camp fees.

How do I know if I am good enough to attend?

It’s not about being ‘good enough’. If you are a dedicated player who loves the game and wants to grow, you’ll fit right in, no matter your skill level.

Can I request a roommate?

Roommate requests can be made up to one week prior to camp starting.

What are the dorms like?

Indiana Wesleyan University’s dorms have been rated the best dorms in the state. You can read more about them here.

What health and safety measures are being taken?

We will implement safety measures based on guidance from health authorities and requirements from Grant County and Indiana Wesleyan University. These measures may change leading up to camp.

What if I can’t afford the camp fee?

A camp scholarship is available to fill out and send back to the camp directors due 1 week prior to camp starting. To access the scholarship please contact Coach David Osborn (david.osborn@indwes.edu). Note filling out the scholarship application does not guarantee you will receive it.

As a parent, can I watch any part of the 3 days?

We do not allow parents to observe all of camp. Parents will be invited to attend our graduation ceremony on the final day as well as another session of the camp. Parents will receive more information on this at our OPTIONAL parent meeting at 12:50pm following registration.

If you are a coach and your son or daughter happens to be a player as well you can register as an observing coach.
