2021 PROSPECT CAMP

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH
WHO: Grades 9th - 12th
CHECK-IN: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
TIME: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM
COST: $175.00
Includes Camp T-Shirt
Must register by Wednesday, September 14th.
*Rain out date is set for the next day, Sunday, September 19th, same place, same time.

This prospect camp is for the baseball player with serious aspirations to play at the collegiate level.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • NO WALK-UP REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED
  • All Medical Waivers, concussion and health forms will be completed and signed electronically.
  • Campers will complete an online health survey 24-48 hours before attending camp.
  • Due to our local community’s recent uptick in infections, all students, faculty, staff and visitors—regardless of vaccination status—are required to wear a mask in campus buildings and other WMU facilities.

FACILITIES
Camp will take place at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field. Park in lot above field by softball.

WHAT TO BRING / WEAR
Bring a lunch/own water bottle. Practice clothes, helmet, baseball glove, baseball bat, cleats or turfs, and water bottle. It is recommended for catchers to bring full set of catcher’s gear.

INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION
Each camper will be evaluated accordingly at the positions they so desire through game action and individual instruction from our coaching staff as well as current WMU players.

MEDICAL CARE
A member of the Western Michigan university athletic training staff will be present during session. Medical waiver forms must be completed prior to participation.

CANCELLATION/REFUND
If a player is forced to pull out of camp for COVID or other medical reasons a full refund (minus a 6% processing fee if notification.

WMU COACHING STAFF
BILLY GERNON - HEAD COACH
Coach Gernon enters his twelth season as head coach of the Broncos. Gernon has led the team to the Mid-American Conference Tournament six of his nine years and has a postseason record of 9-10 including the programs first ever Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship in 2016.

In 2021 the Broncos finished an impressive third place in the MAC going 23-17 in a winner take all season. Junior outfielder Blake Dunn was selected in the 15th round by the Cincinnati Reds. Senior SS Drew Devine and junior catcher Connor Charping were named 1st team ALL MAC, Charping broke the single season record for stolen bases going 32-37.

Western Michigan Baseball posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 20th consecutive semester under Gernon.

The 2020 season ended at 9-5 due to Covid.

The 2018 season was capped off with juniors Nic Laio (20th/Rangers RHP) and Connor Smith (30th/Indians SS) being selected in the MLB draft. Smith was the 3rd shortstop to be drafted in the last five years.

In 2017, junior outfielder Tanner Allison became the first MAC Player of the Year since 1991 and was drafted in the 19th round by the Atlanta Braves. He was also honored with All American distinction making it the first time WMU had back to back All Americans since 1994-1995 with Keegan Akin earning the same honor in 2016.

In 2016 the Broncos won the MAC Tournament for the first time in school history earning a berth to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 1989. Junior LHP Keegan Akin was a second round pick and the 54th selection overall to the Baltimore Orioles and is now in the rotation for the Orioles.

The Broncos have had ten players drafted in the last ten seasons under Gernon including two of those in the top six rounds.
