- Competitions will be held in two rounds taking place in the UTSA Recital Hall on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.
- Competitions are in concert style and are open to the public.
- Three finalists will be chosen for each category and will be announced after the March 9th evening concert.
- Winners will be announced after the March 10th evening concert.
- 1st prize winners of each division will perform a paid concert during the 2025 edition of the Southwest Guitar Symposium.
GUIDELINES:
- All competitors must play on a classical guitar. No steel-string or electric instruments are allowed.
- The registration fee must be paid in order to compete.
- Competitors may be stopped by the judges when their max time limit has been reached (see below). This will not affect the judges scoring of their performance.
- Previous 1st place winners of the solo and ensemble competitions are not allowed to compete in the same competition the following year.
- No refunds will be given after the registration deadline, Friday, March 1.
LOCATION:
All events will be held at the UTSA Dept of Music Building (One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249 | Arts Building 3.01.58)
REGISTRATION FEES:
- Open Division Solo Competition - $100
- High Solo Competition - $50

- 1st Round (Saturday, March 9) - Competitors must present a 12-15 min program with at least two contrasting works.
- Final Round (Sunday, March 10) – 3 finalists will present a 20 min program with at least two contrasting works. Competitors are allowed to repeat works from the 1st round
- 1st Round (Saturday, March 9) - Competitors must present an 8 min program with at least two contrasting works.
- 2nd Round – (Sunday, March 10) – 3 finalists will present a 10 min program with at least two contrasting works. Competitors are allowed to repeat works from the 1st round.
ALL DECISIONS BY THE JUDGES ARE FINAL.
Open Division Competition (No age limit)
- 1st Prize – $1000 and paid return engagement for the 2025 Edition of the SWGS, concert for LoneStar College Montgomery Campus in The Woodlands, TX, and concert for the Austin Classical Guitar
- 2nd Prize – $600
- 3rd Prize – $400
- 1st Prize – Certificate and paid return engagement for the 2025 Edition of the SWGS
- 2nd Prize – Certificate
- 3rd Prize – Certificate
*All amounts subject to 30% withholding for non-US citizens

Participation Waiver: As a competitor in the Southwest Guitar Symposium and Competition, I agree to waive any recording and or photo rights in or on any medium, during any aspect of my participation in this competition. Further, I consent to the unlimited and unrestricted use of my name and image in any format or medium for use by UTSA Department of Music. Additionally, by submitting the application to enter this competition, I state that I accept all of the terms set forth in the Rules of the Competition.
*All prizes subject to mandatory 30% federal tax withholding for foreign prize-winners; US prize-winners will be issued an IRS-1099 Form.
