Excited to invite everyone back or see new faces at our annual Howell Summer Camp!  In our camps, we will focus on the fundamentals of the game including ground strokes (Forehands and Backhands), Volleys, Overheads, and Serves.  We will also emphasize footwork and agility in drills because appropriate preparation to perform the fundamentals of the game successfully is a must!  Once drills have been completed we typically play lots of tennis games/challenges that hone in on these skills and match play appropriate for skill level.

We will group the players according to experience, ability, and age as necessary.  The last day will be a tournament (usually doubles since we have such large numbers and little court space) for the Middle-High School Campers and a full game/match play day for the Elementary School Campers.  We may do a couple of games for the ES group each day to spread it out since we lost a day due to Snow Days.  For the Middle-HS groups we also may start Rnd 1 on Wed/Thurs for the tournament that will culminate on Friday.  We will cool off on hot days with popsicles and have themed days as well.  Wednesday will be Wimbledon Day (where all white), Thursday will be CRAZY SOCK day, and Friday will be CAMP SHIRT & BUCKET HATS! The campers should receive their camp shirts on Wed or Thurs.

From Friday’s competitions/games, ALL players will walk away with a prize! Our goal is to grow the game, improve our skills from where they are at, and have fun playing tennis!  Our HS players will also be grade level buddies for the elementary session, which will officially start at 8am, but players can arrive and get on courts starting at 7:50am.

Indicated in Camp Name; HS Beginners Camp is for new players just starting to play tennis.  HS Experienced/Returning Players is for any player 9-12th that has played competitively on our Howell Team in past years, or is a freshman that has played competitively and trained for at least 2 years.

Required Equipment: Tennis Racket, Water Bottle, Sweat Towel, Sunscreen, Court Shoes specific for tennis are best, but grippy athletic shoes of other types can work for beginners.  I have a limited number of rackets that can be borrowed so be sure to email Coach Carlson in advance if we need to have one ready for you.  

If we have a rain out camp day I will communicate a plan for a new date/time through the camp website and on X.
