Event Description

The Department of Physics is offering a free STEM summer camp focused on Material’s research run by Dr. Derek Meyers and sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The Scientific Underrepresented Minority Materials ExpeRience Camp will introduce students to state-of-the-art materials science research. Planned activities include laboratory tours with other faculty in the physics, chemistry, and biology departments. Demonstrations include angular momentum, high temperature superconductivity, laser interference, liquid nitrogen ice cream, and a campus tour. Experiments and activities will be done under the supervision of Dr. Meyers and student helpers. Participants will form two teams and work together to perform each experiment including thin film sample synthesis, atomic force microscopy, x-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction, all available on campus.

The location is the Oklahoma State University Physical Science Building - 554 Physical Sciences Building (parking lot #34). Drop-off is from 9:00-9:30 am and pick-up between 4:30 and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Meals provided for this day camp include breakfast snacks and catered lunch.

For longer commutes to Stillwater we can provide mileage compensation at standard government rates.
