Painting and Set Design Workshop
In this five-week, 30 hour in-person course, students will develop their visual arts skills in painting under the guidance of a professional teaching artist. The course will be anchored in the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards, namely the 3 artistic processes of responding, creating and presenting. Within that standard structure, students will strengthen their understanding of the artistic skills of color theory, mixing, shape and line work, values, dimension, and perspective while working with still life and landscape paintings. Students will learn to work with acrylic paints and wall paints on a variety of surfaces. Throughout the course, students will learn to generate, organize and refine their art while conveying meaning through independent art works and a final culminating group project of painting sets for the ACTC inaugural Musical production taking place in November of 2025. As a special treat, the artists will be invited to attend the final show as VIP guests who will be featured in the show playbill and have the amazing opportunity of seeing their work displayed in front of a live audience.
