UTSA Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Application

Voelcker Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates in the Pharmaceutical Sciences

 

The Voelcker Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates in Pharmaceutical Sciences program offers an immersive 8-week summer research experience in the areas of Medicinal Chemistry, Preclinical Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Chemical Biology within The University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Science Chemistry Department.

Please read the instructions carefully. You will not be able to save the application once you begin, so please be sure to have the required documentation ready.

This application may be completed by using a desktop computer, laptop, mobile device, or tablet. Please be aware that in order to upload some of the required documents, you will need to have PDF, Word or JPEG image versions of the document. If you have issues submitting all the documents, please email chemistry@utsa.edu for help.

Before you begin, please read all instructions below and gather all the required documents listed below and have all the documents scanned and ready to upload in order to complete the application.

Required Documents:
  • Undergraduate Transcript (Unofficial) 
  • Personal Statement (1 Page Maximum)
  • Letter of Recommendation #1 (One from a Chemistry or Science Professor) 
  • Letter of Recommendation (Another Professor of Your Choice)
  • Resume/CV 

Letters of Recommendation

Applicants have two options for submitting Letters of Recommendation:

 

1. Upload by the Applicant
Applicants may upload their Letter(s) of Recommendation directly using the Form Upload section in the application before submitting the full application.
Please note: You must already have your completed letter(s) in order to upload them at this stage.

2. Upload by the Reference
References may submit Letters of Recommendation through the Participant Forms/Event Forms portal. After the applicant submits their application, they will receive a Registration ID Number.

The reference will need the following information to upload the letter:

  • Registration ID Number
  • Participant’s last name or email address

To upload a letter, references should:

  1. Click “Participant Forms” at the top of the application page (or link provided).
  2. They will be redirected to the Event Forms portal.
  3. Enter the required information to access the system and upload the Letter of Recommendation.

Additional Information:

  • After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam/junk folders to verify that the application was submitted.
  • You will not be able to save the application once you begin, so please be sure to have the required documentation ready.
  • Letters of Recommendations can be submitted from your reference through the Participant Forms. **Please provide your reference with the Registration ID and Participant Last Name or Email in order for them to submit the Letters of Recommendations**
  • Finalists may be asked to attend a zoom interview before selections are determined.
