Event Description
AGSA Recreational League
2026 Registration: Through March 1
- Open to girls Pre-K - 6th grade.
- Registration is based on current grade for the 2025-2026 school year.
- March 2 is a hard deadline for registration and team placement will prioritize players registered by this date.
- Beginning March 3, anyone who missed the deadline can sign up for a wait list. Teams will be filled from the wait list on a first-come, first-serve basis until rosters are complete.
- Rosters will have no more than 12 girls per team, unless there are extenuating circumstances or uneven registration numbers; this will be at the discretion of the Rec League Commissioner.
Age Divisions and Fees
PreK/K (Tee Ball): $39
1st/2nd: $110 (coach pitch)
3rd/4th: $149 (player/coach pitch)
5th-6th: $149 (player pitch)
League placement is based on the player's grade during the current school year. Players may play above (but not below) their grade level. AGSA reserves the right move players to the appropriate age division.
There is a $20 discount for each additional player from the same family. Financial assistance is available with an approved scholarship application. Refunds must be approved by the AGSA board. Please contact board@amesgirlssoftball.org with questions.
Late registrants may sign up to join a wait list; any available spaces on teams will be filled from the waitlist on a first-come, first serve basis until all rosters are complete. Rosters will be capped at 12 girls per team. Please contact the Rec League Commissioner with questions.
Teams are formed in early March, once coaches have been confirmed for all teams. The girls are randomly placed on softball teams, with an effort to evenly distribute pitchers/catchers and players from each grade level. Every effort is made to accommodate carpooling requests; however, placement cannot be guaranteed. Coaches will receive a roster at the beginning of the season and are responsible for contacting their team.
*Note: If you have unpaid registration fees from a previous season, your daughter will not be assigned to a team until all fees are paid in full. Financial assistance is available with an approved scholarship application.

About the Central Iowa Recreation League (CIRL)
With the exception of the PreK/K (Tee Ball) age division, AGSA teams compete against teams from other communities in the Central Iowa Recreation League. Every effort is made to schedule the same number of home and away games, with approximately 10-12 games played during the regular season. Teams in the 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade divisions will participate in the post-season CIRL tournament during the week of June 14-18 (DATE TBD for 2024).
Participating CIRL communities:
- 1st/2nd: Ames, Collins-Maxwell, Colo/Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland/Story
- 3rd/4th: Ames, Collins-Maxwell, Colo/Nesco, Gilbert, Hubbard-Radcliffe, Nevada, Roland/Story, South Hamilton
- 5th/6th: Ames, Colo/Nesco, Gilbert, Hubbard-Radcliffe, Nevada, Roland/Story, South Hamilton
Some CIRL communities have lighted fields, but most game times are scheduled to allow for two 1:20 games per night, per field (exception: 1st/2nd age division has a three-inning or one-hour limit). Teams could be scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. start in another community, so travel time must be factored in for arrival.

Help Wanted: Coaches, Umpires
Recreational league teams are coached by volunteers. Parents may indicate their interest in serving as a head or assistant coach during the player registration process. Others may apply online or contact the AGSA recreational league commissioner.
Coaches are encouraged to organize at least two contacts (practices, games) per week, using AGSA's online field scheduling tool. Batting helmets, bats, balls, catcher equipment and scorebooks will be provided by the league.
Rosters will be distributed via email in late March/early April.
In order to standardize the skills and methods being taught in our program, all coaches and umpires will be expected to attend a short coaching clinic scheduled for early April.
-
Note: All coaches are required to attend a mandatory CIRL coaches meeting on one of the listed dates. All meetings will be held in Nevada, location TBD
2025 Coach Meeting Dates:
3/4 Grade & 5/6 Grade: April 21/2 Grade: May 7th

Umpires are coordinated for home games in the 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade divisions. Umpires must be age 14 or older, and are paid on a per-game basis. Contact the AGSA umpire coordinator for more information.
Volunteers also are needed to assist with photographs and fundraisers.
