Event Description

Baseball

GYS Baseball is a recreational program for boys currently enrolled in 1st-6th grade at Gilbert Schools in Gilbert, Iowa. Players who live in the Gilbert School district but attend an area private school or homeschool are also eligible to participate. Double A includes grades 1st and 2nd, Minors includes grades 3rd and 4th, and Majors includes grades 5th and 6th. All teams are coached by parent volunteers. Practices are held at the baseball fields and batting cages located at Gilbert Elementary School.

The teams are part of the North Story Baseball League which is coordinated by the Central Iowa Recreation League (CIRL). The league includes Colo-Nesco, Collins Maxwell, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story and South Hamilton. Games will be held in Gilbert and in the CIRL communities.

Grades 1st - 6th Double A (Grades 1st/2nd): $80 Minors (Grades 3rd/4th): $100 Majors (Grades 5th/6th): $100
-Late registrations will incur a $20 fee. -Registration fees will not be refunded after the start of the season if the registrant is unable to participate. - Head coach volunteers will have registration fees refunded. - GYS offers scholarships to cover registration fees. Uniform & Equipment

Registration fee includes a jersey and hat. Players will also need baseball pants, cleats and socks to complete the uniform (colors chosen by coach). All players will need a baseball glove. The league provides bats and batting helmets.

Season Information

Double A (1st/2nd Grade)

Season Dates: May 11 - June 30, 2026

Games begin the week of May 25 and are held on Tuesday/Thursday nights.

Weekly practice times will be determined by coach and field availability.

Minors (3rd/4th Grade) & Majors (5th/6th Grade)

Season Dates: March 23 - June 19, 2026*

Minors Games - Monday/Thursday nights beginning the week of April 20.

Majors Games - Tuesday/Friday nights beginning the week of April 20.

Weekly practice times will be determined by coach and field availability.

*Weather permitting, the end of year tournament will be held the week of June 8-12. If there are a lot of rainouts, the tournament will be held the week of June 15-19.

Players will participate in a variety of drills to assess skill levels to create balanced teams.

We recommend all players attend this session, but if your player is unable to attend they will still be placed on a team.

Field Locations

The GYS baseball fields are located south of Gilbert Elementary School (109 Rothmoor Dr, Gilbert, IA, 50105). All home games and practices are held at this location. Entrance to the fields and street parking is found along Christian Petersen Avenue. There is also parking available to the west of the fields at Upstill Park (109 Rothmoor Dr, Gilbert, IA, 50105).
