Event Description

2026 Technical Theatre Workshop

The Technical Theatre Workshop is a hands-on, project-based experience designed for students who love theatre and are drawn to the creative work that happens behind the scenes.

Over the course of this two-month workshop, students will explore the full technical and design process that supports a live theatrical production. Participants will gain practical skills in:

  • Scenic painting and set design
  • Prop construction and stagecraft
  • Costume assistance and backstage operations
  • Sound and lighting fundamentals
  • Stage management and technical production support
  • Community engagement and theatre marketing, including flyer, playbill, and ticket design

Tech Week: March 30th – April 3rd (additional meeting times TBD)

Final Performances: April 4th, 5th & 6th

Time: 4:30 - 7:30pm

Students will work collaboratively as the ACTC Theatre Tech Team, coordinating closely with the Musical Theatre directors and cast throughout the rehearsal and production process. This includes active participation during Tech Week, when students will experience the real-time pacing, problem-solving, and teamwork required to bring a production to life. During this week, the tech team will meet multiple times (schedule coordinated based on student availability).

On performance days, select students will also have the opportunity to serve as backstage crew members and front-of-house managers, gaining first hand exposure to professional theatre operations.

The workshop is co-taught by Everett Louis, Ph.D., teacher educator and art integration specialist, and Brianna Gonzalez, a credentialed high school teacher and working artist.

All participating students will:

  • Be credited by name in the official playbill
  • Receive two complimentary tickets to Once Upon a Mattress (Youth Edition, April 4th–6th)
  • Gain authentic, resume-ready experience supporting a full theatrical production

This workshop is ideal for students interested in technical theatre, design, production, or arts leadership—and for those curious about how creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving come together behind the curtain.
