Throwers Camp
The SRU Throwers camp will provide high quality, in-depth coverage of the discus, shot put, and javelin, and a brief introduction to the hammer. Throws Camp will cover warm-up drills, throwing drills, and technique progressions in all three events. Additionally, the camp will review proper training for all throwing events. Sessions will include weightlifting, plyometrics, medicine ball workouts and other topics related to throwing.
The SRU Throws camp will be instructed by some of the nation’s leading experts in the throws as well as current and former SRU Track and Field Throwers.

Lead Instructors:
Jordan Geist, Slippery Rock University: Jordan joined the SRU T&F staff in the fall of 2025 as our fulltime throws coach. Coach Geist’s resume includes a pair of NCAA DI National Championships in the shot put and a top 8 ranking in the World Shot Put Rankings.
Gary Aldrich, Carnegie Mellon University: Coach Aldrich has many accolades to his name but most notably he was the throws coach for 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics.
Judy Geist, Slippery Rock University: Judy has played an instrumental role in developing SRU into a powerhouse throws program. During her stint as a volunteer assistant, she has directly coached multiple PSAC Champions and All-Americans in the circle throws.
Jim Geist, Slippery Rock University: Jim has made his mark on the javelin runway at Slippery Rock University. On top of multiple PSAC Champions and All-Americans, Jim also coached Danielle Collier to the 2021 NCAA DII National Championship in the Javelin.
Dave Carr: Coach Carr returns to the SRU Javelin Runway. Coach Carr had an illustrious career coaching at Gateway High School as well as private coaching. He has helped develop some of the best javelin throwers in Western Pennsylvania over the past four decades.
Josh Gose, Ohio University: Coach Gose returns to SRU throws camp as he completes his first season coaching at Division I Ohio University. Prior to OU, Coach Gose served as a graduate assistant coach for SRU while finishing out his collegiate career. As an athlete, Josh was a PSAC Champion and National Qualifier in the Shot Put.
Michael Petro, Howard Community College/NCSA: Coach Petro serves as a USATF Level 1 instructor as well as a collegiate recruiting coordinator for NCSA Recruiting Services. He has coached for a decade at the DII, DIII and JUCO Levels.
Nick Price: Coach Price has carved out exceptional coaching career consisting of 12 All American Honors and a DIII National Championship in the Shot Put. This comes on the heels of his own impressive throwing career that saw him qualify for the Indoor and Outdoor USATF Championships on seven occasions.
Please note: To keep the camper-to-instructor ratio low, the camp will be capped at 60 total athletes. Spots will fill fast, so register ASAP to reserve your spot.

Camp Instructors
Bradi Rhoades, Vault Shack/Westminster College: Coach Bradi Rhoades (‘04 Alumni) and owner of “The Vault Shack” will act as the lead instructor of the SRU Pole Vault Camp! Coach Rhoades has been coaching pole vault at Westminster College for 17 years where he has accumulated 19 NCAA DIII All-Americans including the 2022 NCAA DIII National Champion (Emma Rudolph) and 2017 NCAA DIII National Champion (Marissa Kalsey). In 2017 Marissa Kalsey set the NCAA DIII National meet record at 4.22m (13’10”) which still stands today!
Cam Daugherty, Slippery Rock University: An alum of SRU, Cam was a 5-time NCAA DII All-American in the Pole Vault and 2012 National Champion during his time at the Rock. After his collegiate career, he coached at SRU and was named the Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017.
Tom Hale, Hickory High School: Coach Hale has coached the Pole Vaulters at Hickory for nearly three decades. During his time he has coached numerous athletes over 16 feet on the men’s side and 12 feet on the women’s side.
Maddie Conley, Vault Shack: Coach Conely was a NCAA DIII All-American Pole Vaulter for Westminster College. Upon graduation, she has worked as a coach at Vault Shack.
