2018 CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS

May 20th, 2018
*Video Submissions due May 13th by midnight

Who: Any Incoming student to Kent State or any current Kent State Student
Time: 8a-5p
Cost: $30.00
Itinerary for in person tryouts
*Arrive early to ensure paperwork is in order prior to check in with registration
8:00 - 8:30 am Check in/ Cleared by Athelteic Traning and Fitted by Varsity
8:30 - 9:30 am Stretch and then begin evaluations of standing tumbling and jumps
9:30 - 10:30 am Fight song with tuck evaluations
10:30 - 11:00 am Running tumbling evaluations
11:00 am - 12:00 pm Fitness Test (1 mile timed, timed sit ups and timed push ups)
Conclude with fight song review with tucks
12:00 - 1:00 pm Lunch Break/Cuts made
1:00 - 3:00 pm Stretch and warm up, Safety Demo for Stunting, Stunting Evaluations to follow
3:00 - 4:00 pm Interview Process with athetles
4:00 - 5:00 pm Team announced, team meeting to follow immediately with review and signature of contract

What To Bring:

  1. COMPLETED tryout packet from the Kent State Athletic training site: http://kentstatesports.com/sports/2013/7/11/athletictraining.aspx?tab=athletictraining
    ***You will Not be allowed to participate with out these forms filled out completely
  2. Current Headshot (Clear view of your face with current hair-color- does not have to be professional! The more accurate to what you look like on the day of tryouts the better!)
  3. Cheer shoes
  4. Water
  5. Snacks
  6. Any and All Medical and Physical neededs- braces, inhalers

What to Wear:

  1. Do Not wear any attire representing another University
  2. Full Game-Day Make-up (professional look)
  3. Hair up in Ponytail/ Half-up with a Bow
  4. Blue Gold or White Sports Bra (Ladies) Plain White T-Shirt (Men)
  5. Navy Blue Shorts
  6. White Cheerleading Shoes
  7. ALL JEWELRY MUST BE REMOVED- NO EXCEPTIONS!

Requirements to make the Kent State University Cheerleading Program:

  1. A fitness test will be administered: Timed 1-Mile Run, Push-ups and Sit-ups
  2. Previous stunting experience not required, but recommended. We look for potential
  3. Standing Tumbling: Standing Tuck minimum (jumps to tuck and skills to layout or full preferred
  4. Running Tumbling: Tuck minimum (layouts, whip-passes, and fulls preferred
  5. Male Athletes: previous experience not required, but can be helpful in the tryout process. You are required to learn and master a toss-hands extension and begin work towards mastering a standing tuck
  6. You will learn and perform our Fight Song and a short sideline cheer. Both should incorporate a standing tuck.
  7. There is a short Interview Process

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU CANNOT PERFORM SKILLS YOU PERFORMED AT TRYOUTS AT OUR FIRST TEAM PRACTICE, YOU COULD BE CUT IMMEDIATELY!

Video Tryout Requirements

Females- Game day Make Up and Hair, Males- Clean Shaven, Both Male and Females-All Skills Must be performed on DEAD MAT/Turf or Grass (NO SPRING FLOOR)

  1. Jumps to tumbling ( 2 of the indivudals best Jump to tumbling skills)
  2. Standing Tumbling ( 2 of the indivudals best Standing tumbling skills)
  3. Running Tumbling (2 of the indivudals best Running tumbling skills)
  4. Standing Tuck
  5. Any and all stunting experiance the indivudal has (i.e. ALL Girl/Coed flying or backspotting, basing) versitility is a huge part this program
  6. The Fight Song performed with poms and tuck. If the individuals does do not know the fight song please include a dance/fight song with poms and tuck in the matrerial, a sideline chant and cheer.
  7. 30 second description of the individual and why they want to be apart of Kent State Cheer, and how if choosen they plan to be a model example of Kent State Univeristy
  8. All TRYOUT VIDEOS ARE DUE BY MAY 13th at MIDNIGHT. NO LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED
