Event Description

Summer Camps

The annual Wayne State University Summer Baseball Camp has been scheduled for June 25-29. The event will be held on the campus of Wayne State University, utilizing the WSU Baseball Facilities, athletic campus and Multipurpose Indoor Facility.  Campers will receive fundamental instruction in all aspects of the game, have the chance to meet select Detroit Tigers and visit the new Harwell Museum.

The camp is hosted in partnership with the Detroit Tigers Foundation, which is an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, and this year moves to a week-long format featuring an exciting schedule both on and off the field for camp participants.  Opportunities include a Major League Baseball batting practice evaluation, WSU/Comerica Park tours and attending the Tigers vs. Athletics game on June 28.  Each day also includes a lunch on campus.

This year's guests from the Detroit Tigers will be announced soon. Past Tigers guests include Alex Avila, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Doug Fister, Michael Fulmer, Curtis Granderson, Shane Greene, Carlos Guillén, Torii Hunter, Brandon Inge, Austin Jackson, Ian Kinsler, Victor Martinez, James McCann, Magglio Ordóñez, Rick Porcello, David Price, Iván Rodríguez, Max Scherzer, Gary Sheffield, José Valverde and Justin Verlander.

Clinicians for the camp include former Detroit Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones, WSU head coach Ryan Kelley, current Tigers coaches, select high school coaches, premier guest instructors and Wayne State baseball student-athletes and coaches. Camp participants will learn from an open camp environment where questions are encouraged.  Jones has over 30 years of experience in professional baseball, including over 20 as a pitching coach in the Detroit Tigers organization.  Jones has played a key role in bringing Cy Young and MVP awards to Detroit.  He was named the Tigers' bullpen coach in 2006, marking his fifth stint in that capacity, before being promoted to pitching coach in 2011. Most recently, he served on the staff that lead Team USA to a World Baseball Classic Title in 2017.

This camp has sold out quickly in previous summers, and we encourage everyone that is interested to register early in order to secure your spot.  The deadline to register online is June 18 or until camp is sold out.
