Advanced Pitching and Velocity Developmental Program offered by the University of Illinois Springfield coaching staff, including head coach Chris Ramirez, pitching coach, Ryan Copeland and assistant coach, Levi Petzoldt.

This is a 2 hour session and is available to the first 40 student-athletes to register. The program will include a review of proper pitching mechanics, a highly detailed throwing program, mound work, and a comprehensive arm care maintenance program.  This will include the use of Jaeger Bands, Plyo care balls, wrist weights, and tubing exercises. This also includes a detail report from our Rapsodo machine that each athlete on be evaluated on.

What to Bring
Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The baseball field is located across of The Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC) on the campus of UIS. The address for the The Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC) Richard Wright Dr, Springfield, IL 62703. Please bring your baseball gear: pants, gloves, tennis shoes, and hat.

Individually, the UIS team had 5 pitchers who earned All-Conference honors along with 2 players earning awards for the All-Region team. The biggest achievement for the program in 2018 was Cole Taylor became the first 2 time All – American in program history with Mike Rothmund and Nick Stokowski earning All-American honors for the first time.  Also, making history at UIS, Taylor was the first person in program history to sign with a MLB team (Angles).

The UIS pitching staff was ranked 1st in the GLVC in: ERA (3.14), Hits Allowed (351), Runs Allowed (224), SO (514), and Opponents Batting Average (.208). 

While being conference leaders in the major pitching categories, the UIS pitching staff was ranked in these national categories as well: ERA 3.16 (6th), Strikeouts per 9 innings with 510 at 10.0 per 9 innings (10th), WHIP 1.24 (6th), and Hits Allowed per 9 innings 6.80 (1st).

Ryan Copeland is in his 4th year as pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Illinois Springfield.  Prior to UIS, he spent one year as an assistant coach at Illinois State University, where he coached current St. Louis Cardinals shortstop, Paul DeJong. Copeland spent 4 years as a left hand pitcher in the Cardinals organization and pitched collegiately at Illinois State from '07-10.

Assisting with Ryan Copeland is Levi Petzoldt. Petzoldt is in his 4th year as assistant pitching coach/travel coordinator at the University of Illinois Springfield. Prior to UIS, Petzoldt spent 3 years at Lincoln College where he also is an alum. Petzoldt played and graduated from Fontbonne University.
