2019 Defensive & Hitting Mini Camps

Defensive Mini Camp Hitting Mini Camp Both Sessions

Defensive Mini Camp: This mini camp is designed for the player who wishes to learn the physical and mental aspects that it takes to become a complete defensive player.

Pitchers, will learn the mechanics of pitching as well as grips and finger pressure for fastballs, breaking balls and change-ups. Players will learn form drills, maximize velocity and location drills that will improve their command of pitches. Players will also learn how to properly field their positions on bunts, comebackers, throwing to bases and covering bases.

Catchers, will learn the physical aspects of becoming a better catcher. Coaches will emphasize receiving and throwing stances, framing and blocking. As well as teaching catchers how to properly field their position and bunts, pop-ups, blocking the plate and force plays.

Infielders, will be taught the proper mechanics of fielding a ground ball. Players will learn proper footwork on fielding groundballs hit to them, glove side and backhand as well as slow rollers, through drill work. Infielders will also learn how to cover bases on steal attempts, tag plays, double plays and priority responsibilities on pop-ups.

Outfielders, will be taught proper footwork and routes on fly balls and ground balls hit at them, left and right. Drills will also teach players foot work for going back on a ball, coming in on a ball and getting into proper throwing position.

Hitting Mini Camp: This hitting camp is designed to teach players proper hitting mechanics. Coaches will emphasize proper grip, stance, balance, stride, swing mechanics and finish. Players’ swings will be broken down and corrected through various drill work, batting practice, and review. Players will also learn the mental side of hitting learning proper swings dictated by counts, pitch type and situations. Players will also be taught bunting techniques for sacrifice situations, bunting for a base hit and suicide squeezes.

What to Bring: Campers should bring the following items: Baseball spikes, sneakers, socks, long pants, shorts, hat, glove. It is important to make sure that your name is on all equipment including your bag if you bring one. Lunch will not be provided for any of the sessions. Players staying for two sessions should bring their lunches to eat in between sessions.

Medical Release: It is understood by the parents, that by enrolling their child into a DeSales University camp, you authorize the
staff to act for you according to their best judgment in situations requiring first aid or medical attention. Also, that you hereby waive DeSales University from any and all liability for an injury or illness by your child while at camp. An Athletic trainer will be staffed at all DSU baseball sessions.

Location: DeSales University is situated in Northeast Pennsylvania only 15 minutes from the N.J. border. It is only 45 min. from Philadelphia, 1 hour from Delaware, 1 1/2 hours from New York City and 2 hours and 15 minutes from Baltimore.
