Event Description

Join us for a science summer camp at NIACC where students entering 8th, 9th, 10th grades will explore a variety of science disciplines and career fields through hands-on activities. Campers will stay in the dorms at NIACC and work closely with faculty and college students to get a feel for the college experience. Scheduled day sessions include experiments and activities in Biology, Engineering, Solar Energy, Coding, and many more. Campers will be one of the very first students to interact with the newly acquired Anatomage Table, which is a state of the art virtual cadaver, for anatomy explorations. Extra-curricular and evening activities include engineering competitions and sciencebased art projects. We will have a viewing of the engineering and space film October Sky. Campers will leave camp with an improved understanding of STEM disciplines and career options, exposure to the college experience, and many fun memories!

Youth Exploring Science (YES!) Camp

Anatomage Table & Biology: The Anatomage table is a virtual cadaver comprised of real, life size images of human bodies. Campers will interact with this table to learn about body structure including internal organs, skeletal and muscle structures. Students will build their own models of lungs and determine their own lung capacity.

Coding: Learn programming through coding and robotics!

Engineering Challenges: Will your team create the winning paper roller coaster?

Solar Cars: Students construct their own mini solar car and use it to learn about solar energy. Use this kit to discover how the motor works, uses/limits of solar panels, and explore gearing. View the instruction manual for a materials list and ideas for use.
