Session 1: Pitching and Catching
Pitchers will warm up their pitches working on proper fundamentals with Head Coach Britt Stewart and current Gustie pitchers. Campers will also work on accuracy and leg drive while learning new drills to implement into their pitching routine. After pitchers warm up and learn some new drills, they will be joined by catchers in session one to work on change-ups and more drills to help develop better spin, more accurate location and enhance power in each pitch. This session is aimed at giving pitchers a few more tips to help develop their pitches as they go into their off season. Simultaneously, catchers will work with assistant coach Kirsten Prunty and current Gustie catchers on various catching skills; including receiving, stance, transfer, blocking, framing, leadership and communication. This session is geared towards attention solely on the catcher and their skills, as often times catching work gets overlooked. Catchers will learn new drills that they can take back home to continue to work on their game in and outside of practice and games.
Session 2: Offense and Defense
Gear up for an afternoon of fun as Gustie athletes and coaches work with campers on fun drills and competitions to increase their offensive and defensive game. This session will be filled with a mix of throwing competitions focusing on accuracy, with a mix of infield and outfield drills to help develop solid fielding fundamentals. Offensive games include hitting line drives, timing, bunting, and increasing leg drive to provide more power on each hit. This afternoon will fly by as campers learn fun ways to develop their fundamentals of the game in addition to competing on each and every play. We help to break down mechanics with positive communication and help develop proper form in all aspects of the game. Campers will learn in this session how hard work, hustle and positivity make learning the game of softball fun.
Note: Lunch will not be provided. Please bring your own lunch or plan on purchasing a lunch from the Gustie Caf.
