Event Description

The McNeese Summer Middle School Band Academy

Sunday June 9th - Thursday June 12th, 2019
Registration deadline is May 24th

Students will need the following for the academy (please read the entire document!):
Attire for the finale performances will be academy shirt (distributed during the week) & shorts or pants
  • Your instrument (McNeese CANNOT provide any instruments, mouthpieces or reeds)
  • Standard mute(s)
  • Pencil
  • Swimsuit for Pool Night
  • Umbrella or rain jacket
  • PERCUSSIONISTS: Please bring as much of the following as you have, or can get from your director:
    Concert snare sticks and marching sticks
    Medium yarn mallets / Xylophone mallets / Timpani mallets
    **If you do not have access to all of these, that's ok. Bring as much as you can.
  • Comfortable athletic shoes
  • Sunscreen and hat
All Resident (Overnight) Students
* Note: Residents must remain on campus at all times, unless arrangments are made prior to the academy week. Any
resident leaving campus during the week will be dismissed from the academy without a refund.
  • Bed Linens
  • Pillow
  • Towel and Toiletries
  • Alarm clock of some kind
**Residents: If you will be taking any medication during the week, please bring only the amount you will need for the
week, in the perscription container. Place the perscription bottle in a ziplock bag, labeled with your name. An academy
staff member will hold and distribute medication on a daily basis.**

Sunday, June 9 Schedule
  • 3:30 Resident Check-In (please do not arrive before 3:30) Band Hall (340 E. Sale Rd.)
  • 4:30 Commuter Check-In Band Hall
  • 5:00 Welcome Meeting (Parents may also attend) Band Hall
  • 5:30 Dinner (pizza in band hall)
  • 6:15 Warm up & seating auditions & music sectionals
  • 8:30 Academy Dismissal
  • 8:30 Master Classes on your specific instrument
  • 9:30 Small ensembles & Jazz Band
  • 10:30 Elective Class 1
  • 11:30 Break for Lunch (commuters and residents in cafeteria)
  • 12:45 Elective Class 2
  • 1:45 Recreation Time / Special Topics Sessions
  • 3:00 Sectionals
  • 4:00 Concert Band Rehearsal
  • 5:30 Dinner (commuters and residents in cafeteria)
  • 6:45 Meet for Evening Activity (Monday- Pool Night, Tuesday- Sports Night, Wednesday- Movie/Game night)
  • 8:30 Daily awards presentation and dismissal - Band Hall
Wednesday, June 12
  • 8:30 – 2:30 Regular schedule
  • 2:30 Jazz Band and Chamber group rehearsals
  • 3:15 Concert Band Rehearsal
  • 4:00 Dorm cleanup for resident students / Commuter student activity
  • 4:30 Dinner
  • 6:00 Finale Performances, Academy Dismissal and Dorm Checkout

Family, directors and friends are invited to the Academy Finale Performances on June 12. This will be held in the grand gallery and Tritico Theatre, next to the band hall.

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each session. Dorms, meals and sessions will be supervised at all times.

MS Fees

Residents:     $325 (includes tuition, housing, all daily meals, academy shirt & recreation)

Commuters:  $225 (includes tuition, daily lunch and dinner, academy shirt & recreation)
