GIRLS' GUARD SCHOOL | 2019 - SOLD OUT

 

GIRLS GUARD SCHOOL: GUARD SCHOOL is a teaching camp for a guard who is looking to take his or her game to the next level.  This camp features a detailed learning environment based on developing game applicable skills that “translate” into high frequency game situations.  The following high frequency game situations will be covered:

  • Advanced Ball Screen Techniques – Spacing and Skills
  • “In Game” Finishing Moves
  • Spot up Situation – Attacking the Closeout
  • Playing without the Ball in your hand
  • Decision Making in the Paint
  • Perimeter Footwork Series
  • “In Game” Dribble Moves – No Gimmics
  • Handling Pressure (Zone and Man)

Each skill development session will be followed by a “Lab” session in which the campers have the opportunity to implement the skills they are learning during the instructional sessions into “Live Controlled Play”

LIVE "LAB" LEAGUE PLAY: At various times during camps, the two camps will combine to form teams for the Live “Lab” League Play.  During these competitions, both guards and posts will have a “laboratory” to test the skills and concepts they have learned throughout the camp.

VIDEO SESSIONS:   Clinics will feature video breakdown sessions of the specific skills and high frequency game situations that are being taught to further aid the learning process.

  • Overnight Campers will stay on campus in air-conditioned dorms and be provided the following all-you-can eat meals.  (Commuter campers receive all meals as well.)

Coach Matt Garnett is the owner, founder, and director of MGBasketball Instruction.  During his time as the collegiate head coach at  McMurry University, Garnett was named the American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year while leading McMurry to its first Conference Championship and = NCAA National Tournament appearance in over ten years.  During his tenure at Wayland Baptist University, Garnett orchestrated a turnaround leading the Pioneers back to the NAIA National Tournament in both 2014 and 2015 after inheriting a team that won only nine games prior to his arrival. The 2014-15 season produced a 27-6 record and the school’s only Sooner Athletic Conference Championship in the history of the program.  During the 2016-17 season, while serving as the Associate Head Coach at Texas Wesleyan University, Garnett helped the Rams win the 2017 NAIA National Championship.

Garnett graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a B.A in English and holds a Master’s Degree in Christian Ministry from Wayland Baptist University.
