How Not To Sweat the Standardized Test: 10th-12th Grades
It’s hard to get through a day as a high school student without encountering some form of standardized testing. ISTEP, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, ACT, AP… the list sometimes seems endless, and the exams are unavoidable. You need the ISTEP to graduate, the SAT or the ACT to go to most colleges, the ASVAB to go into the military, and Ivy Tech has its own admission and placement exam if you haven’t taken one already.

Every student knows that he or she will score higher on an exam for which he or she has prepared. “By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail”, said Benjamin Franklin. But just how do you prepare for an exam that you haven’t even seen?

This one hour workshop walks students through the ins and outs of how to succeed on a standardized exam and covers material that includes how best to prepare for the exam, how to recognize and retain important information, how test questions are written, (and how to use this information to improve your score), as well as how to prepare mentally for success on the exam.  (Part 2, SAT / ACT Boot Camp, is for students planning to take these exams and will meet immediately following. (Enrollment in both this workshop and “How not to Sweat About a Standardized Test” will be discounted from $200 to $175.)

Tom Miller has been helping people to excel on standardized exams since 1995.  His students have included high school and college students who have gone on to bachelor’s and graduate degrees, US Navy personnel taking exams to advance to the next pay grade, corporate trainers preparing for certification as Certified Professionals in Learning and Performance, (CPLP), and countless other standardized exams here and abroad.

He has written and edited exam preparation material for The Princeton Review and for McGraw-Hill Education, as well as having taught at secondary, post-secondary, and university levels.  He currently tutors a number of students attending Zionsville, University, Westfield, and Brebeuf high schools, and teaches first year Statistics and Economics in the Butler University MBA program.
