Building Leaders through the Arts, STEAM, and Teamwork (BLAST)
BLAST Academy is a four-week summer learning and enrichment program developed and administered by the University of Alabama’s Division of Community Affairs and College of Education on the University of Alabama campus. The program’s objectives are to enhance student’s academic learning, physical well-being and to promote social, emotional, and life skill development.
Registered students will be divided into four groups based on age (5-7 year olds, 8-9 year olds, 10-11 year olds, 12-14 year olds). Within their age groups students will participate in the following lessons daily: Arts education – music, Arts education – art, Physical education, STEAM education, and Conflict resolution & social emotional learning. All students will be supervised in small groups with two group leaders. Approximately a 8:2 student:leader ratio will be maintained throughout the Academy.
BLAST Academy enrollment is open to 5 to 14 year old students in West Alabama based on a first-come first-served basis. The program will run Monday through Friday on The University of Alabama campus. Transportation is not provided. Check-in will take place Monday through Friday from 7:45am until 8:15am and check-out will take place from 3:15 – 4:00pm. The BLAST Academy will begin on Monday, July 3 and will conclude on Friday, July 28.
The BLAST Academy will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.
