NOTE
Due to the CoronaVirus and social distancing measures that are currently in place, tryouts for the UT Spirit Program will be conducted online for cheer and dance, and in person in August for mascots. The online tryouts for cheer and dance will consist of a series of video submissions, with the first video to be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and the link posted online. All of the information for your tryout video will be sent to you after submitting your application, including instructions for posting your link.

The deadline for all applications and first video submission is Sunday, April 5 at 11pm Eastern Time.

Due to social distancing, we encourage you to submit video footage that you already have and/or that you can do from home. We do not expect nor do we encourage you to leave your home to capture these skills on video. Additionally, please only provide video with the skills requested! It will not benefit you to show additional skills. In fact, your ability to follow directions will be part of the evaluation!

If you do not have some of these skills already on video or are unable to do so at home, you will have the opportunity to explain that when you send your video link and this will not negatively affect your evaluation.

The following skills will be evaluated for Dance in your first video submission due April 5:

  • Personal Introduction

  • Solo - one minute in length. Please choose a style of dance that highlights your personal movement, skills, and strengths. If you do not have access to an appropriate dance space then please submit a video of a solo performance from the past 6 months (practice or competition) or a team performance from this past season, indicating your starting position.

  • Game Day - learn game day material provided to showcase your sideline technique and etiquette. Include crowd effective spirit raising as a lead in and ending to the choreography that is provided. Instructional video will be sent to you when you submit the application.

More info will be sent in the email you receive after submitting your application.
