Dear Grambling State University Friends and Family,

The GSU women’s soccer team is fast approaching our fast approaching our 2019 fall sports season. The Tigers Soccer program won the Southwestern Athletics Conference regular season title last year posting a 9-1 record in Conference play and 14-8 record overall. The team set a school record with 13 shutouts in 2018 and had one of the best defensive streaks in the entire nation for Division 1 not allowing a goal for over 900 consecutive minutes (10 games in a row without giving up a goal). In 2019 the goal is to become even better.

We are striving to build an organization founded upon the values of hard work, determination, unity, and a love for the game. 0ur goal is to become a force on the national soccer scene. It takes a lot of time, effort and dedication from our team and coaching staff to be consistently successful. Funding is another important piece that enables sustainability for non-priority sports teams such as soccer that receive much lower amounts of aid than the bigger sports do in college.

As a small mid major Division 1 University, we will humbly compete against some of the better power conference teams in the nation that will have quadruple the team budgets we do which helps their recruiting, scheduling, travel, equipment, scholarship and even retention. Teams like the #11 nationally ranked Texas Longhorns, or the 24th ranked University of North Texas, and 2018 NCAA tourney qualifying Arkansas Little Rock are all such programs that we will take on as in David versus Goliath type match-ups this fall.

What we're doing is asking our GSU soccer players to reach out to a small group of family, friends, or mentors in their life who might be inclined or interested in making a small donation to help fund team events this year. 100 percent of the funds will go directly to the team fund and we plan on using it for things like our pre-season team camping trip for bonding, team meals, team gear for the players, and if we raise enough, for program improvements. GSU soccer has proven the last few years to be a dedicated group of individuals excelling on the soccer field two years in a row being selected as the Grambling State Team of the Year, but also our team has killed it in the classroom posting over a 3.25 GPA finishing as a top two team in academics both years.

If you would like to contribute to the Grambling Soccer team, we would sincerely appreciate your support and contributions at any level you are willing to give.  https://www.gsutigersoccercamps.com/fundraiser.cfm  To make an online contribution click the link and then follow the steps by checking the amount and options that best suit you.  Any donors or businesses who are making large contributions and would like to use the donation as a tax write off as a charitable contribution to a tax exempt group, please contact Coach Wagar prior to donating so he can connect you with GSU office of finance to ensure you get the proper documentation to be able to use it for tax purposes. Donations of $500 or more will get an autographed team soccer ball in return for your generosity.

Thank you for your time and support of our GSU Soccer Team. Please tune in to our games this fall and watch online or plan to come see us compete in person and make some noise on the sidelines. Follow us online if you have Facebook @ Grambling State University Soccer for weekly pictures and team player info.

Sincerely,

Justin Wagar
