2019 BOYS CAMP

The 2018 SWAC Conference Coach of the Year and Conference Championship Soccer team Grambling State University staff will be running a competitive skills and training camp at the Nelsa Complex in Monroe July 8th-10th. We welcome you to come train with us, improve your skills and knowledge of the game and then apply those in a game setting during our Tuesday evening scrimmage. Read below for more info.

July 8th - 10th
Grades: 8th - 12th, Boys
Cost: $65 if registered before July 6th
$75 if registered after July 6th
Optional Ball Purchase: $12.95

Who for: Camp registration is open for all male soccer players entering 8th grade through 12th grade intended for West Monroe High and Ouachita Parish boys soccer teams. Due to the large number of anticipated campers, the training sessions will be divided into two groups so each group can get the instruction and personal attention they deserve. Training groups will be announced as we draw closer to camp. Please touch base with your coaches at that time to make sure you attend the right time for training.

What: This is a skill and competition camp. We'll teach integral basic skills up through advanced skills that you need to learn to be an effective soccer player including 4 forms of shooting, dribble move series, post up move series, 1 vs 1 defending technique, and combination play set up and execution. Then you will be put in competitive situations to have the chance to execute these skills in match play. In addition to the instruction, we plan on having scrimmage play on Tuesday evening of camp with tournament style play and teams split amongst groups into four 25 minute segments for games. Each group will only see 3 segments of play as there will be some overlap. The scrimmages will be an opportunity to use the lessons you're being taught in camp and to work on some tactical play as well as team play.

How Much: Camp cost for the three day camp is $65 per camper and includes roughly 11 hours of soccer that during camp. Get fit and get some touches in prior to camp week so you are prepared. To avoid $10 late registration fee, please register prior to 11pm on July 6th.

Where: The camp will be hosted at the NELSA Soccer complex in Monroe. Please arrive 15 minutes early on the first day to check in, and to start getting warm. And then ensure that you are there at least 5 minutes early and ready to go on the other two days of camp.

When: Camp will be run on July 8th-10th with session times for one group from 8am to 11am. And the second group from 1pm to 4pm. There will be a scrimmage Tuesday evening with one group beginning intra-squad play at 5:45pm, and the resting group beginning play at 620pm. Teams will be mixed for the scrimmages to make teams competitive.

What To Bring: Campers please bring a water bottle filled with ice water each day, a soccer ball if you can with name written on it (they can purchase a Grambling State size 5 ball for $12.95 online or at the camp the day of), adequate sunblock, and a coachable attitude ready to learn and have some fun. Camp instructors will be the Grambling State Soccer head coach and possible additional staff.
